The Approach

The environment
IPAD maintains a relaxed and self-paced environment that promotes the
development of self-confidence in the learner.
The relationship
- The initial relationship focuses on determining the abilities,
inabilities and personality traits of the individual learner. He receives individual
attention until he joins a group with similar requirements. Individual
classes can also be continued if so requested.
- A group will never consist of more than six learners. They
undergo
specific training based on shared attributes or requirements. The
preference is for a learner to join a group as soon as possible as the learner discovers that he is
not abnormal and that he can learn from others. This is the first step
towards him becoming independent of extra tuition. It is also more
cost-effective for the parent,
- Still later the learner will be weaned from the
group, working by himself,
but with help available when required.
- The last step is to suggest termination of the relationship to the
learner or parents to ensure that the learner becomes independent once the
objectives have been achieved.
The parent receives
frequent feedback throughout.
IPAD facilitators are from the following
backgrounds:
- Ex-teachers with decades of experience in teaching mathematics. They
were head of their maths or science department at their school, therefore
they were responsible for interacting with the Department of Education and
drawing up assessment norms and examination papers.
- We always have at least
one teacher with remedial qualifications to understand and support the
issues of learners with learning problems.
- Post-matrics with distinctions in science in maths and normally studying
maths or science at university. They are valuable for still remembering
learning issues at school or during the writing of an examination. Learners bond more
easily with them and discover the real life value and careers related to
science and maths.
The curriculum
The national curriculum are taught using a range of
selected handbooks.
Examination grooming
Learners are frequently exercised in writing examinations, using either
current examination papers in use at schools or custom designed papers to
evaluate specific competencies. Learners are also encouraged to prepare on our site
for examinations. This involves no cost and is dependent on the availability of space.
Hours
IPAD realises the intense time schedules of the modern learner and the
limited time available for transport by the parents. Hours are therefore very
flexible and continues until 19:30 at night.
